Belief system networks can be used to predict where to expect dynamic constraint

چکیده

We test if a change in an attitude affects other related attitudes (i.e., dynamic constraint), core prediction of belief systems theory. use psychological network methods to represent the system and make preregistered predictions about which should what extent. collected data two longitudinal experiments (N = 3004; N 2999) three pilot studies (combined 2788) from community samples US Americans. T1 as pretest measures estimate structure sample's generate preregister predictions. At T2 participants were randomly assigned one conditions: control condition (no manipulation), terrorism manipulation (Study 1), crime 2) manipulation, or banking (Studies 1 & 2). successfully manipulated targeted also observed changes non-targeted system. Multilevel models provided evidence that moderated by their distance within system: Non-targeted closer experimentally typically changed more. Changes generally (and mediated by) attitude. discuss implications our findings for theory value studying change.

Can the surface electrocardiogram be used to predict myocardial viability?

OBJECTIVE To investigate whether QRS morphology on the surface ECG can be used to predict myocardial viability. DESIGN ECGs of 58 patients with left ventricular impairment undergoing positron emission tomography (PET) were studied. (13)N-Ammonia (NH(3)) and (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) were the perfusion and the metabolic markers, respectively. The myocardium is scarred when the uptake of b...

Causal Models can be Used to Predict Base-Rate Neglect

Causal models are used to predict individuals' probability judgments on the taxicab problem of Tversky and Kahneman (1982). Predictions are based on the hypothesis that judgments take into account only those variables that are judged causally relevant. Two versions of the problem were tested, one with and one without causally-relevant base rates. The results showed that causal models were able ...

Can singing be used to predict critical habitats?

Climate-induced changes may be more substantial within the marine environment, where following ecological change is logistically difficult, and typically expensive. As marine animals tend to produce stereotyped, long-range signals, they are ideal for repeatable surveying. In this study we illustrate the potential for calling rates to be used as a tool for determining habitat quality. With a goo...

Can conversational word usage be used to predict speaker demographics?

This work surveys the potential for predicting demographic traits of individual speakers (gender, age, education level, ethnicity, and geographic region) using only word usage features derived from the output of a speech recognition system on conversational American English. Significant differences in word usage patterns among the different classes allow for reasonably high classification accur...

Can carbon isotopes be used to predict watershed-scale transpiration?

[1] The Penman-Monteith equation is often used to estimate transpiration, but an important limitation to this approach, especially for mountainous forested sites, is an accurate estimate of canopy conductance averaged over the area of interest (Gs). We propose a method for estimating watershed-scale transpiration using estimates of Gs derived from measurements of stable isotopes. To estimate Gs...
